The Philosophy of Southwood Elementary School's Art Program

Art is an individual expression which should be encouraged to grow, as the child understands the connections between art and the world. My goal is to help your child develop the knowledge, skills, techniques and self-confidence necessary in order to create meaningful works of art.

STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO:

  • Create and communicate a range of subject matter symbols and ideas
  • Apply appropriate skills and techniques when creating a work of art
  • Make cultural and historical connections through art
  • Evaluate and respond to characteristics of works of art
  • Make connections between the visual arts and other disciplines in the real world
