Principal's Message

Hello Southwood Families,

The last few weeks have been full of fun and learning.  Our students returned from Winter Break ready to excel. Our second through fifth graders participated in our quarterly awards celebrations during the week of January 21, 2019.  It was exciting to see so many families present to honor their children’s success and hard work.

Our students continue to make i-Ready gains in both reading and math.  Please support your child’s goal of 45 minutes in reading and 45 minutes in math and a pass rate of 80%, by meeting minutes not met at school by working on i-Ready at home.  If you don’t have computer access at home, we have an open lab from 8:15 to 8:35 in the mornings for students to work towards i-Ready goals. Please contact your child’s teacher if you’d like your child to work on minutes in the morning.

February is a busy time with a number of activities and events for our school community. Pennies for Patients begins February 1st and continues through the end of the month. Please check the PTA website, www.southwoodpta.org, for event information and volunteer opportunities for the following: RoseBUDS Dance, Valentine candy gram sales, campus beautification, My Lady and Me Night and our annual talent show.

The partnership between school, parent, and student is paramount.  I truly appreciate our extremely dedicated and committed staff who make Southwood all that it is. I thank them for their passion and commitment to excellence which has been delivered to the highest level.  I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank each and every one of our parents for allowing us the privilege of working with your children and for your ongoing commitment and support of Southwood. Your children inspire us as educators each and every day.

As we enter the winter months, please remember to have your children check the lost and found, located in our cafeteria. We tend to get many items left over the noon hour. I know these items easily get lost during transition or recess times. Thank you again for your continued support of our school.
