Third grade marks an important time in children’s education as they transition from what is often known as the “lower grades” to the “upper grades.” It is a crucial time in students’ learning as they become more independent and mature learners. In 3rd grade students progress from practicing basic skills to mastering them and moving on to further developing more complex skills. Third graders become more advanced readers, writers, mathematicians and thinkers, digging deeper into topics and beginning to analyze what they learn.

The third grade team will use the state standards to provide our students with the knowledge and problem-solving skills to be life-long learners. We provide an environment that encourages academic risk-taking, in a community of learners that grow at their various developmental stages. Parental involvement is an essential part of the partnership between parent, child, and teacher.  We believe by demonstrating our educational passions, the learner will discover their own hidden talents which lead to life-long, reflective learning and allows the child to reach their full potential.

The third grade team enjoys collaborating with our students and their families.  Please contact us. We would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Southwood's Third Grade Team
